Why we travel with kids

Why we travel with kids?

Why do we go to all these amazing places with kids when they may or may not remember them?

What about having the grandparents watch the kids while the parents travel?

All good questions, and for us the answer is relatively simple.

For us, we like to have new experiences. We all want to have “different” vacations each year.  Of course, I think they are used to going somewhere different each year. Sometimes we have a similar vacation (road trip two summers in a row) and they will remind us that we did that the previous year.

Global citizens.  I want to do more with my kids than sending them off to grandmas or go to the same place each summer.  The world is vast but small.  Let’s explore.  Let’s build memories.  Do things we’d never thought we would or could do.

We are always telling our kids (especially girls) that they can do anything they want to.  Let’s do more than tell them.  Let’s show them.  Confront your fears.  You can go ziplining over a rainforest.  Let’s climb a volcano.  Go white water rafting.  Let’s wander around an art museum and see the art you only see PICTURES of.

So, we like to pick a new destination each year and plan towards it.  Sometimes, we road trip, camp and see National Parks.  Other times, it’s a city we explore.  Other times we travel internationally.  Those are the bigger trips and we cannot quite do them each year.

I think by exploring, you get to be in nature, challenge yourself, learn about ancient civilizations, see other cultures, expand your way of thinking.  See how others live.  Try new foods. See a Moose walk across the street. Maybe just maybe, these kids and teens will appreciate what they have back home a just little more.

C’mon let’s go!
