Hawaii with kids?? Are you kidding??
Well, no.
Hawaii is a great place to take the kids.
Yea. Sure. What do you think of when you think of Hawaii? Maybe the perfect tropical paradise for romantic vacations and honeymoons. Lazy days lounging at the picturesque beaches sipping fruity cocktails. World-class surfing. Breath-taking sunsets.
Yes, it is all of those things.
But, it turns out that it is also super fun for kids of all ages.
What is a better family trip than one to the beach? And the beaches in Maui. Well, it doesn’t get any better than Hawaii beaches.
Ok, so you won’t spend your afternoon snoozing in a hammock, sipping fancy cocktails or going to fancy dinners. Instead, you will spend your days combing the beaches for little sea creatures and seashells. There are beaches with calm water for the little ones. While your teens might enjoy the North Shore, famous for surfing.
Amazing Beaches
What would Hawaii be without the beaches? There are beaches for everyone. Calm water with gentle lapping waves. Perfect for getting little toes wet, digging in the sand, and looking for seashells. Older kids and teens might enjoy something more active. Stronger waves for body surfing, or the real thing. There’s no shortage of water sports here!
Luau
Yes, a luau is a pretty touristy thing to do. But you really have to do it at least once. Most hotels will offer a Luau excursion. The show, the music, the dancing and the food. Let the kiddos stay up late for this one.
Maui Ocean Center
On your way from Lahaina to Wailea, right there in the middle, is the Maui Ocean Center. A lovely center dedicated to the ocean. Kids can see fish, touch the rays. There are excursions here too.
The Sugar Cane Train
The Sugar Cane Train is an old steam train that takes you through the sugar cane plantations. Kids seem to just love trains and this is no exception. The view is nice. You can watch the trains turnaround at the end. A great excursion if you want or need a break from the beach!
Road to Hana / Seven Sacred Pools
The Road to Hana is another must-do. Just be fair-warned, it’s not for the weak of heart. If anyone is prone to motion sickness (just like yours truly here), take it slow. Lots of breaks are warranted. Take some Dramamine and bring your ginger. Take in the scenery and all the waterfalls. In the end, you can hike to the Seven Sacred Pools. Cascading waterfalls and plunge pool empty to the deep blue Hawaiian ocean.
